5.1 Review and critique at least one short film production
It was made in 2018 by young people that did the BFI academy, United Kingdom. The story line was about a homeless young girl who was living in the streets on her own and she looked like she had language barriers we see this because one individual stole her bag and she didn’t say anything to get her stuff back, and then she got scared as another girl walked towards her, but the girl was only going up to her to give her a sandwich.
The film is about a homeless girl, who can’t speak English as she is new to the UK. We see this because she hasn’t nobody with her like a parent or siblings but also because she doesn’t try to ask people that walk past her for anything. The message of the film is to treat everyone with respect and kindness but to also treat everyone equally. It was a short film that was a non-fiction because it was based on something that is true and is happening to people all around us but to also be thankful to what we are able to have because there are people that have nothing. The film was a quiet film, so it didn’t have any sound, but it had background music which related to the theme of the film.
The camera techniques where not very varied because they didn’t have as much angles and shots because they only had a close up and very far shot, medium shot.to improve it they could have used many more shots and angles and also zoomed in on something that was very important in the film like the bag before someone robbed it. The editing style was good because they added background music, so it wasn’t completely silent but also, they made it look very professional.
The film is aimed at everyone because it’s about an issue that is very important in this country especially for individuals that are new to the country and can’t speak English. The location of the short film was in an alleyway in Sheffield where it was very quiet and not a lot of people pasted by. It made me feel like I needed to help people more in life in any way that I can as there are a lot of individuals in this world that don’t have what I may have such as a home, food, clothes and many more.
I would say it worked because I volunteer to help people who have language barriers so I translate for people so that the language barrier can be broken but also because the individuals don’t feel discriminated against and left out. Yes, I would recommend this short film because it’s very educational and it teaches kindness and ways to help individuals that are homeless. And it shows us we can help people in many ways not just by giving money, but it could be food, providing them with help for a shelter and clothing.

Hi Danait, thanks for this. You have completed this module to a good level.
Here are a few suggestions on how to get a top-level answer:
When titling your review, you should format it as follows: Film Title, Director, Country, Year. This is a prompt, please can you find out this information and write it at the top of your review, e.g., The Lion King, dirs. Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, USA, 1994.
What was the affect of unvaried shots? How did it make you feel? What would you have done differently?
Would you describe this film as a documentary? What was the overall tone or impression given by the film?
Were there any roles (director, producer, writer, editor) that you think were executed particularly well in this film?
If you could incorporate your ideas on the above into your answer, and format it as an essay-style answer, that would get you a higher-level mark. When you have had the time to update this response, could you post it, along with your other answers, onto your NCFE wordpress blog. I can help you log in if you are struggling 😊 Good work so far.
