04. Working Practices and Legislation

4.1     Demonstrate good health and safety practice when working on film      productions

Health and safety are important in film production because the workers and actors must know the health and safety rules and exits so that if there is anything such as a fire they know where the fire exists are. However, Health and safety checks are put in place to make sure that everyone is safe, and no harm is caused. Some key safety issues that relate to film production are there are lots of wires on the floor so people need to make sure that they don’t trip over them so they have to tape them down to the floor so that they don’t cause any harm or put anyone in danger. We must make sure that the wires are taped to the floor but also any equipment that we aren’t using needs to be put away. This is important so that anyone working whilst the film production doesn’t get hurt and not be able to work which could slow down the film production.

We looked at the different types of hazards that could occur in the time of film pro-duction and how we could prevent them from happening. I learnt that there are lots of different hazards that can occur during filmmaking but also how to prevent them. I think that I have worked very well with other as I am easy to work with but also, I can talk to different people. I think I will need to develop my knowledge more about the hazards that can occur and how they can be prevented.

4.2     Explain why copyright is important in the film industry

Copyright in the film industry is important because most films are books first, but they change some parts of the book to make sure that the film is shorter than the book that may be 5000 words and has a lot of chapters because the film has to be a limited time and also it needs to get to the point quickly so that viewers don’t find it boring. Copyright is when the exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material. The Copyright law temporarily gives an author or producer the sole right to copy and distribute his or her work, so, they included anincentive in the Constitution: Bestowing Congress with the power to grant creators the exclusive right to control their creation for a limited time period.

The person who makes the arrangements for the film to be made, usually the pro-ducer and director, owns copyright in a film. Copyright is important because it pro-tects your work against use by others without your permission. allows you to get money for your work. Copyrights protect original artistic works, such as literature, music, films, software, and architecture. They grant their authors the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute copies, prepare derivative works, as well as perform or display the work publicly. If we were to use copyright materials in our filmmaking, we may need to change how the character would use it so it’s not the same as other films, so we don’t break the copyright law. We would have to make sure that we don’t make our film like any other films. Copyright law has affected our film because our script sounds similar to other films that are crime/comedy themed, so we have had to change some part of the film so that when we come to filming we don’t have to do any last minute changes.

Copyright is a form of intellectual property law, which protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture so it doesn’t get stolen by others. We may have to change some scenes in the short film so that it’s not the same as other crime or comedy shows that are like the one, we are filming.

To make sure that I don’t copy or break the rules from the copyright law so that it’s not the same as other movies. It hasn’t really affected it because we haven’t started filming the short film yet but when we start it may affect the details that we can put in the film or the theme of it as it is a crime/comedy short film
